Always let your hotel know if you’re celebrating something special. You’d be surprised how often they go the extra mile — from complimentary room upgrades to thoughtful treats waiting in your room.
When I stayed at Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, I mentioned that it was my birthday. When I checked in, I was presented with the most beautiful roses. Later, when I returned to my room, I found balloons, dates, and a stunning gold-leaf birthday cake waiting for me. There was even a bottle of fizz so I could celebrate in style.
If I’d bought the cake myself, it would have cost around £65 — but instead, it was a wonderful surprise and made the day feel even more special.
It just goes to show — it never hurts to ask!
